そして、彼らに言われた、

「あなたがたのうちのだれかに、友人があるとして、

　その人のところへ真夜中に行き、『友よ、パンを3つ貸してください。

　友だちが旅先からわたしのところに着いたのですが、

　何も出すものがありませんから』と言った場合、

　彼は内から、『面倒をかけないでくれ。もう戸は締めてしまったし、

　子供達もわたし一緒に床にはいっているので、いま起きてなにもあげるわけにはいかない。』

　と言うであろう。

　しかし、よく聞きなさい、友人だからというのでは起きて与えないが、

　しきりに願うので、起き上がって必要なものを出してくれるであろう。

　そこでわたしはあなたがたに言う。

　求めよ、そうすれば、与えられるであろう。

　探せ、そうすれば見いだすであろう。

　門をたたけ、そうすれば、あけてもらえるであろう。

　すべて求める者は得、捜す者は見いだし、門をたたくものはあけてもらえるからである。

　あなたがたのうちで、父であるものは、

　その子が魚を求めるのに、魚の代わりにヘビを与えるだろうか。

　卵を求めるのに、さそりを与えるだろうか。

　このように、あなたがたは悪い者であっても、

　自分の子供には、良い贈り物をすることを知っているとすれば、

　天の父はなおさら、求めて来る者に聖霊を下さらないことがあろうか。」

And he said unto them,

Which of you shall have a friend,

and shall go unto him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

for a friend of mine is come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him;

and he from within shall answer and say,

Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee?

I say unto you,

Though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend,

yet because of his importunity he will arise and give him as many as he needeth.

And of which of you that is a father shall his son ask a loaf, and he give him a stone? or a fish, and he for a fish give him a serpent?

And I say unto you,

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth;

and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

And of which of you that is a father shall his son ask a loaf, and he give him a stone? or a fish,

and he for a fish give him a serpent?

Or if he shall ask an egg, will he give him a scorpion?

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children,

how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
